In May 2004 I was invited by The Stavanger Cathedral Chamber choir

to perform the work mentioned above at a Church-singer festival in the Cathedral of  Trondheim,

regarding the composer Egil Hovlands 80´s birthday.

This lovely work nearly 30 minutes long, should be played by many more bassoonists!

You need a strong reed and a good choir.

The bassoon solo part has the range from low B flat to E flat 2.

The bass choir part has a range from Kontra A to F1!!.

So you need some really good bass singers.

I chose 2 light reeds with a dark sound that were played in and were adjusted for cold temperatures.

That was a good idea, because playing in a cold chatedral with a choir for 30 minutes really gives you a "hit".

I needed to warm up for 45 minutes, and then I felt everything was on its place.

I used a Moosmann thin walled Bronze bocal for this job. This is really my favourite bocals at the moment.

This Bassoon concerto is very well written for both elements.

The solopart has a range from Low B flat to high E flat, and is a singing solo part.

The composer writes iodomatic for the bassoon.

The cathedral was filled up with festival members and the composer was present.

The feeling of sitting in front of a big choir and have a huge cathedral sound in front of you, was very inspiring.

The concert went very well, and the composer was very pleased.
